Simone Biles makes history with Yurchenko double pike at worlds, will have it named for her

The Yurchenko double pike was first done by Biles at the world championships Sunday, thus the vault will be named after her.

Gymnasts name skills after the first person to perform them at an international competition.

Biles has two floor exercise skills and one balancing beam and vault skill.

"It's great," coach Laurent Landi said. "I hope people know that's possibly the last time they'll see a lady gymnast vault like that. I think it's time to enjoy it."

The Sportspaleis crowd cheered when Biles landed. She smiled and slapped Landi before running down the runway for her second vault.

She survived," Landi stated. “She handled her nerves and pressure. Last event caused tiredness."

Pulling your body around twice in a piked position requires great strength. As she vaults, Biles grips her thighs tightly and holds her torso stiff.
