El Nino: List of Areas Listed as Flooding Hotspots In Nairobi

Nairobi- The Nairobi County government has designated flood-prone regions ahead of the mid-October El Nino rains.

Nairobi's Chief Disaster Management and Coordination Officer, Bramwell Simiyu, said the county administration will advise citizens in flood-prone regions.

Our mitigation plan involves continually unclogging drainages using environment workers. Our sub-county teams must also set priorities, resource needs, and budgets, Simiyu stated.

Other communities include Mukuru, Waruku, and Nairobi River communities in Kileleshwa due to their historical flooding risk.

Flooding has also devastated Loresho and Muthangari wetlands, particularly along the Kileleshwa Ring Road intersection.

Flood-prone areas include Maziwa-Zimmerman on Kamiti Road, the River Bank along Baba Dogo-Outer Ring Road, Lavington-Chalbi Drive, Garden Estate, Thome, Roysambu, Kahawa West, Donholm, Mbagathi/Langata Road Roundabout, Madaraka, Strathmore, Nairobi West, and Utawala.

Simiyu said the crisis response team for the flooding is well-organized, with officers allocated to different issues during the El Nino era.
